ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Eureka men's soccer team fell to Webster on Wednesday night in a highly contested match, losing 2-1.
Webster opened the scoring early, finding the net in the 13th minute to take a 1-0 lead. However, the advantage was short-lived, as Troy Arries (Cape Town, South Africa/Wynberg) leveled the score with a long-range effort that found the top corner in the 22nd minute. This marked Arries' first goal of the season and the second of his collegiate career. The Gorloks quickly responded, regaining the lead with a goal just six minutes later, making it 2-1 in the 28th minute.
The Red Devils fought hard down the stretch, creating several scoring opportunities but were unable to find the equalizer. Webster outshot Eureka 16-6, with 6 shots on target, while Eureka recorded 5 shots on target. Arries led the Red Devils with 4 shots, putting 3 of which were on target. Brayton Strawkas (Buffalo, Ill./Tri-City) made his first appearance of the season in goal for the Red Devils, recording 4 saves.
