BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Eureka men's soccer team lost their first SLIAC match of the season, falling 2-1 at Lyon.
Lyon opened the scoring in the 17th minute, taking an early 1-0 lead. The Red Devils quickly responded, when Pascal Calonges (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) netted his third goal of the season, assisted by Joyce Kabesa (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington). The first half concluded with the teams tied at 1-1
The second half saw both teams pushing for the winning goal, but it wasn't until the 84th minute that Lyon found another goal, taking a 2-1 lead. Eureka fought hard in the final minutes but couldn't find the equalizer, ending the match with a 2-1 defeat.
Lyon outshot Eureka 7-6, but the Red Devils managed 5 shots on goal compared to 3 for the Scots. Michael DeCarlo (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) led Eureka with 2 shots.
