EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka men's soccer team struggled to contain the Scarlet Hawks' attack on Friday night, falling 5-0.
Illinois Tech took an early lead with a penalty kick in the 16th minute. Just six minutes later, the Hawks scored again to extend their lead to 2-0 in the 22nd minute. Shortly after halftime, Illinois Tech added another goal to make it 3-0 in the 47th minute. The Scarlet Hawks scored two more goals in the 66th and 72nd minutes to secure their 5-0 win.
Despite the scoreline, both teams recorded 10 shots in the match. Illinois Tech had 8 shots on goal, compared to 6 for Eureka. Freshman Uli Castaneda (Bloomington, Ill./Normal West) led Eureka with 3 shots, while SeniorJake Edmondson (Monticello, Ill./Monticello) added 2 shots, both on target. Freshman goalkeeper Kohle Andrakowicz (Elgin, Okla./Elgin) made 2 saves in 71 minutes, while fellow freshman goalkeeper Andrew Monroy (Los Angeles, Calif./Cathedral) made 1 save in 19 minutes.
