BELOIT, Wis. – The Eureka men's soccer team secured a 2-1 victory over Beloit on Sunday in their first road trip of the season.
The Red Devils took the lead in the 9th minute when Merdi Ilonga (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) found the back of the net for the first goal of his career as a Red Devil. Beloit had one chance to equalize in the first half, but freshman goalkeeper Kohle Andrakowicz (Elgin, Okla./Elgin) came up with a save to keep the Buccaneers scoreless going into halftime.
In the second half, Beloit managed to equalize just three minutes in. However, Eureka responded when freshman Anthony Gutierrez (Elmwood Park, Ill./Elmwood Park) delivered his first collegiate goal in the 65thminute, giving the Red Devils a 2-1 lead. Gutierrez's goal proved to be the winner, as Eureka held on to secure their first win of the 2024 season.
The Red Devils outshot Beloit 20-6 and managed 9 shots on target compared to just 2 for Beloit.
