Eureka’s Santiago Herrera Named SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week

EUREKA – Eureka's Santiago Herrera (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Americano de Guayaquil/Lincoln) has been selected St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

In his first game as a Red Devil, the senior defender netted the maroon and gold's first goal of the season on a corner kick by Khalil Alleyne (Diego Martin, Trinidad/Fatima College/Lincoln), and he helped Eureka hold Edgewood to one goal in 3-1 season-opening win on Friday.

Herrera is the first SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week under second-year coach Ryan Woodside.

Eureka went 1-1 in the first weekend of the season, falling short against Grinnell 3-2 on Saturday after Friday's 3-1 win over the Eagles.

The Red Devils (1-1) takes on Rockford (0-2) on the road on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
