LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Eureka men's soccer team traveled to Louisville this weekend and came home with a 1-0 win over Spalding, topping the Golden Eagles for only the second time in program history.
Eureka's Khalil Alleyne (Diego Martin, Trinidad / Fatima College/Lincoln) recorded the match-winner in the 62nd minute on a rebound and finish just outside the six-yard box. It was sixth goal of the season and the Red Devils made sure it stood to preserve the win.
Spalding outshot Eureka 21-11 and had two more shots on goal than the maroon and gold, with eight to EC's six. However, it wasn't enough to snag a home win.
Goalkeeper Brayton Strawkas (Buffalo, Ill./Tri-City) recorded his first career clean sheet and had eight saves.
The Red Devils' win moved the Red Devils to 4-4 on the season and 2-2 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
It was Eureka's first men's soccer win over Spalding since the Red Devils' 4-1 win over the Golden Eagles on Oct. 22, 2011.
Eureka (4-4, 2-2 SLIAC) will look to keep it going on Tuesday when the Red Devils host Webster (5-1-2, 3-0-1) at 5 p.m.
