Red Devils Rout Emmaus, 10-1

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Eureka men's soccer team scored 10 goals for only the second time in program history in a 10-1 victory at Emmaus on Saturday.

It was the team's first time reaching double digits since Sept. 1, 2009, when the Red Devils ran away from Lincoln Christian by the same score.

It was also the team's first win as a program since the Red Devils' 4-3 win over the Eagles on Sept. 10, 2019. Eureka is now off to a 1-1 start for the first time since the 2019 season.

The win was also EC's first under first-year coach Ryan Woodside.

Jacob Russow (Streator, Ill./Streator/Lincoln) led the way on the offensive end, recording a hat trick and notching one of the team's three first-half goals and two of the team's seven second-half goals.

Isaac Noriega (Chicago, Ill./Muchin College/Prep/Lincoln) also scored two first-half goals, Tyler Russow (Streator, Ill./Streator/Illinois Valley) had one each half, and Edgar Sanchez-Gravez (Bloomington, Ill./Normal), Daniel Jüeliger (London, UK/Netherhall Secondary School/Lincoln), Khalil Alleyne (Diego Martin, Trinidad/Fatima College/Lincoln) and Jake Edmonson (Monticello, Ill./Monticello) each netted one.

Sanchez-Gravez put the Red Devils on the board in the 15th minute.

Emmaus' Uredi Mulinga came back and delivered the equalizer for the home team in the 23rd minute, but the Red Devils ripped off nine goals unanswered.

Jacob Russow put away the go-ahead goal less that four minutes later, and Daniel Jüeliger scored on an assist by Milan Bajgai (Manchester, England/Swinton/Lincoln) in the 40th minute to give EC a 3-1 lead at halftime.

Alleyene, who notched the Red Devils' first goal of the season in the team's 3-1 loss at Illinois College on Friday, struck 10 minutes in the second half on an assist by Noriega.

Then, EC tacked on unassisted goals by Jacob Russow, Tyler Russow, Jacob Russow, Noriega and Edmonson before Noriega finished an assist by Bajgai in the 74th to put EC in double digits.

Bajgai finished two assists and Noriega had one. Goalkeeper Brayton Strawkas (Buffalo, Ill./Tri-City) recorded a pair of saves.

With its first win under its belt, Eureka (1-1) will host Moody Bible (0-2) in its home opener at McKinzie Field on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
