ST. LOUIS – The Eureka men's soccer team has been selected eighth in the 2022 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason poll.

The poll, which was conducted by league coaches, featured the Red Devils with nine points.

For the second straight year, Webster topped the field with exactly 49 points and seven of the eight first-place votes. Spalding received the other first-place vote and had 41 points.

Greenville wasn't far behind with 39 points, and the Panthers were followed by Blackburn (26), Fontbonne (25) and Westminster (23), respectively.

Principia finished three points ahead of the Red Devils with 12 points.

Eureka is looking for a turnaround season in the first year under new head coach Ryan Woodside. The Red Devils went 0-16 last fall. This year's squad features an infusion of new blood, bringing in 18 new players to the program.

Eureka also welcomes back seven players from last year's team in Teddy Wesoloski (McDonough, Ga./Ola), Casey Frietsch (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria), Jerry Anderson (El Paso, Texas/San Elizario), Will Wiegand (Metamora, Ill./Metamora), Jake Edmondson (Monticello, Ill./Monticello), Bryn Callahan (Moline, Ill./Moline) and Sean Blair (Paris, Ill./Paris). Anderson, Callahan and Blair are all returning upper classmen, while Wesoloski, Frietsch, Wiegand and Edmondson are all coming back for their second year in maroon and gold.

The Red Devils' season begins with a road season opener at Illinois College on Friday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m.
