EUREKA – The Eureka men's soccer team's Homecoming match against Fontbonne was scoreless at halftime, but the Griffins broke the tie early in the second half and pulled away for a 7-1 win.

Diego Cintora (Watseka, Ill./Watseka) scored the Red Devils' lone goal of the match on a finish following a feed by Justin Siebert (Hopedale, Ill./Olympia) in the 79th minute. It was Cintora's first goal of the season and the sixth of his career, and it was Siebert's second career assist.

Fontbonne's Alex Wigge broke the deadlock with a blast from the left side of the box in the 51st minute. Six minutes later, Andrew Kneale scored off his own rebound to extend the lead to two goals.

The Griffins scored three more goals in the short order between the 68th and 75th minute to make it 5-0 before Cintora put the Red Devils on the board.

A long throw in down the right line by Kamiel Sauer (Haarlem, Netherlands/Coornhert Lyceum) set up Siebert for an opportunity. He won the ball and a took a couple of touches before connecting with Cintora at the top of the 18-yard box. The senior split two defenders, then pushed near-post past the keeper.

Trent Calvert scored two goals late to make it 7-1.

Eureka goalkeeper Isaac Hughes (Westville, Ill./Westville) tallied nine saves on the night.

The Red Devils (0-8, 0-6 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) will now turn their attention to Wednesday's 3 p.m. home match against Blackburn (6-4, 4-1 SLIAC). The last time EC faced the Beavers, Blackburn edged them 3-2 in the second extra period of extra time.
