Blackburn Edges EC Men’s Soccer in Overtime, 2-1

CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The Eureka men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker on Wednesday, falling in overtime 2-1 in its St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener at Blackburn.

The Beavers recorded in the golden goal in the 101st minute of play at Blackburn Stadium. Zibo Siamsipa played the ball in from the right side and Hayden Reese won the 50-50 with the defender and finished on a 1 v. 1 with the keeper to end it.

It was Siamsipa's second assist of the afternoon. He also assisted Luke Atkinson's first goal of the match in the 32nd minute.

Blackburn held on to a 1-0 lead until halftime, but soon after, the Red Devils got on the board with an equalizer from Will Wiegand (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) on an assist by Teddy Wesoloski (McDonough, Ga./Ola).

It stayed that way until Reese's final goal.

Eureka had its chances in the attacking third, but the Red Devils also had to play a lot of defense, fending off 36 shots from the Beavers.
