Red Devils Picked Eighth in SLIAC Preseason Men’s Soccer Poll

ST. LOUIS – The Eureka men's soccer team has been selected eighth in the 2021 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason poll.

The poll, which was conducted by league coaches, featured the Red Devils with seven points.

Defending champion Webster topped the field with 49 points, including seven of the eight first-place votes. Spalding received the other first-place vote and had 43 points. Greenville followed with 33 and Fontbonne and Westminster were right behind with 30 and 29, respectively.

Blackburn was sixth with 18 and Principia was seventh with 15.

The Red Devils are coming off an 0-9 spring campaign in which the team was consistently shorthanded. This fall, the Red Devils feature a rejuvenated roster of 19, which will be led by the senior trio of Diego Cintora (Watseka, Ill./Watseka), Ignacio Gutierrez (Madrid, Spain/El Prado) and Austin Marburger (Litchfield, Ill./Litchfield).

Eureka hosts Emmaus in an exhibition match at McKinzie Field on Friday at 7 p.m. Then, next Saturday, the Red Devils will travel to Emmaus for its season opener at noon.
