James Bowen Named to All-SLIAC Team

GREENVILLE, Ill. – Eureka senior James Bowen (Homer Glen, Ill./Seneca H.S.) has been selected to the All-St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Third Team, Commissioner Dr. Dick Kaiser announced Saturday at the SLIAC Tournament in Greenville, Ill. Bowen, who was also an All-SLIAC pick as a freshman in 2015, scored a team-best nine goals in 2018.

The four-year forward joins David Crady (2008-10), Cody Halstead (2010-11) and Brian O'Malley (2008-09) as the only Red Devils to receive All-SLIAC honors in multiple seasons.

Bowen ranked fifth among SLIAC players in scoring this season and added three assists to allow his final season point total of 21 to rank eighth.

Bowen, whose 64 career appearances are tied for sixth-most all-time at Eureka, finished his collegiate career ranked second on the Red Devils' all-time lists with 36 goals and 85 points. His 13 assists ranked third all-time, his .191 shot percentage was fourth and his .537 shots on goal percentage was sixth. Bowen is the new all-time Eureka record holder with 188 shot attempts and 101 shots on goal.

Senior Tim Johnson (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.) was Eureka's representative on the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team. One player from each league school is nominated to the team.

Kaleb Keller of Principia was voted SLIAC Offensive Player of the Year and Webster's Justin Schmidt was tabbed SLIAC Defensive Player of the Year. Juan Jose Herranz of Greenville was the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year and Webster head coach Mike Siener garnered SLIAC Coach of the Year accolades. Third-seeded Greenville clipped fourth-seeded Iowa Wesleyan 1-0 with an 89th-minute penalty kick for the SLIAC Tournament crown on Saturday in Greenville.
