EUREKA – The Eureka College men's soccer team took the pitch for its 12th St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener Saturday afternoon, falling in a 3-0 decision to visiting Fontbonne at Traister Field.
Nick Wolf scored all three FU goals, including the match winner at 12:58. Andres Castro and Charles Gibbs were credited with assists for the visitors.
Eureka attempted 11 shots Saturday, six of which were on frame. James Bowen (Homer Glen, Ill./Seneca H.S.) and Michael Hansen (Peoria, Ill./Limestone H.S.) totaled five shots apiece. Four of Hansen's attempts reached their target, but FU goalkeeper Drew Blair produced a clean sheet in the Griffins' shutout victory.
The Red Devils will continue league play Wednesday at Iowa Wesleyan. Kickoff versus the Tigers in Mount Pleasant is scheduled for 3 p.m.
