MONMOUTH, Ill. – Logan Hobbs (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) gave the Eureka College men's soccer team an early lead with his first collegiate goal in the 12th minute of Saturday's non-conference match at Monmouth, but the Fighting Scots recovered to earn a 4-1 win over the Red Devils.
The defeat ended Eureka's brief two-match win streak to begin the 2018 season. Eureka goalkeeper Moises Aldana (Spring Valley, Ill./Hall H.S.) made a career-high 11 saves.
Hobbs' goal was unassisted at 11:37. The Scots tied the match in the 22nd minute when Lukas Nilsson took a feed from Martin Zafirov and finished for a 1-1 score. Mario Sanchez later scored the match winner at 37:02 on a pass from Duh Thang.
An own goal pushed Monmouth in front 3-1 shortly after halftime and Jack Ressler's unassisted tally at 84:03 finished the scoring.
Eureka will be back home Thursday at 4 p.m. versus Faith Baptist Bible.
