Preseason Men’s Soccer Poll Announced by SLIAC

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Six-time St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer champion Webster has been picked by league coaches to win the conference in 2018, according to a poll released by the conference office on Thursday. Eureka College was picked 10th in the poll conducted earlier this month.

Webster had three first-place votes to edge five-time defending SLIAC Tournament champion Westminster for the top slot in the poll. The Blue Jays also received three first-place votes.

Fifth-year head coach Dwain Barker, the winningest head coach in Eureka's 11-year men's soccer history, returns 11 letterwinners from last season.

Senior James Bowen (Homer Glen, Ill./Seneca H.S.) is back for his senior season as the Red Devils' second leading scorer in program history, putting up 27 goals in 47 appearances since 2015. In all, six players that appeared in all 15 matches last season are back on the 2018 EC roster and four players – Tyler Goss (Pekin, Ill./Pekin H.S.) Michael Hansen (Peoria, Ill./Limestone H.S.), Cristian Marin (Whittier, Calif./California H.S.) and Adam Newell (Morton, Ill./Morton H.S. – started all 15 contests.

Eureka is scheduled to begin its 12th NCAA Division III season on Saturday, Sept. 1 versus Lakeland on the turf at McKinzie Field. Kickoff versus the Muskies is set for 4 p.m.
