Eureka Returns From a Record-Breaking 2015 Season

Eureka, Ill. — Returning from their record-breaking 2015 season, the Red Devils look forward to another promising season. The men are predicted to finish 8th in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with 11 of the 19 players returning from the 8-11 season.

All eleven players saw action in at least four games. The returning leading goal scorer, junior Brady Thomas, scored 16 of the 56 team goals in the 2015 campaign. Following close behind was sophomore James Bowen with 11. Bowen, sophomore Tim Johnson, and senior Mark Murphy dished out four assists each to tie for the team lead last season.

Returning to the penalty area is junior goalkeeper Daniel Johnson. In his inaugural campaign, Johnson guarded the net in all 19 games, allowing a 2.63 goals allowed average. This is the second lowest average in school history, only slightly higher than Alejandro Barragan's 2009 record of 2.10 GAA. Johnson also holds the record as goalkeeper with most wins and shutouts.

Amongst the 11 returners are 8 newcomers. Freshman Logan Hobbs enters Eureka College scoring 9 goals and assisting 5 times during his high school career. Freshman Adam Newell enters with 2 career goals at the high school level.

The Red Devils will kick off their 2016 campaign at Traister Field on September 3 at 1pm against Emmaus Bible. The race for the conference title will begin on September 24.
