EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka men's basketball team fell to Lyon 88-63 on Thursday night after a commanding first-half run put the Scots in control.
The Red Devils started strong, taking an 8-5 lead after a pair of early baskets. However, Lyon quickly responded with a dominant 17-0 run, shifting the momentum and forcing Eureka into catch-up mode. Shooting struggles plagued the Red Devils throughout the half, as they went just 10-for-33 from the field, while the Scots capitalized on their chances, shooting 16-of-30. Both teams committed 10 turnovers in the first half, but Lyon was more effective in converting them into points. Frank Toney extended the Scots' lead with a three-pointer at the 10-minute mark, and despite a fast-break layup by Raymond Bandzoumouna (Lisle, Ill./Lisle) to cut into the deficit, Eureka trailed 40-25 at halftime.
Eureka showed fight in the second half, trimming the deficit to 10 after an early layup from Emaryon Byrd (Peoria, Ill./Manual). But just as the Red Devils gained momentum, Lyon answered with a crushing 14-2 run to put the game out of reach. The Scots' balanced attack proved difficult to contain, with Toney continuing to make plays, while Kennedy Warren and Kylon McCullough hit key shots to keep Lyon comfortably ahead. Despite late scoring efforts from Jaxson Provost (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) and Blake Logsdon (Meridian, Idaho/Mountain View), Eureka couldn't close the gap, and the Scots secured the road win with a strong second half.
