Brown Hits 1,000 Career Points as Red Devils Roll to 74-55 Win Over Westminster

EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka men's basketball team secured a 74-55 victory over Westminster at home on Saturday. Peewee Brown reached his 1,000th career point during the first half, becoming the 27th player in program history to achieve this milestone.

The Blue Jays came out strong, quickly jumping to a 12-2 lead, but the Red Devils weren't fazed. Peewee Brown (Peoria, Ill./Manual) responded with several key baskets, leading Eureka's charge to chip away at the Blue Jays' lead. Dylan Logsdon (Meridian, Idaho/Mountain View) hit a timely 3-pointer to close the gap to 20-16, and Sam DeJesus (Delavan, Ill./Delavan) and Jacob Gonzalez (Los Angeles, Calif./Chatsworth Charter) added crucial points, allowing the Red Devils to take their first lead of the game at 23-22 with 6:57 left in the half.

Later in the half, Brown reached his milestone, knocking down two free throws with 3:36 remaining to give him 1,000 career points. The game briefly paused as Brown's teammates and the fans applauded the achievement. When play resumed, the game was tied at 28, but the Red Devils went on a late run to take a 39-33 lead into halftime after Jonah Lauff (Pana, Ill./Pana) hit a buzzer-beating corner 3-pointer.

In the second half, Eureka came out firing, outscoring the Blue Jays 35-22 and never letting up. Peewee Brown continued to lead, pushing the advantage with a layup and more free throws. Dylan Logsdon added a jumper to extend the lead to 11, while Max Richardson's (LaHarpe, Ill./Illini West) layup and tip-in kept the pressure on Westminster. Blake Logsdon (Meridian, Idaho/Mountain View) hit two key late 3-pointers to extend the advantage, and the Red Devils went on to secure the 74-55 victory.

Peewee Brown led the charge with 15 points, contributing not only on offense but also defensively with two steals. Dylan Logsdon impressed with his defensive prowess, recording two blocks and two steals. Blake Logsdon and Ben Carter (Morton, Ill./Morton) tied for the team lead with five assists.

The Red Devils will travel to Greenville on Wednesday, Jan. 29, for a 7:30 p.m. matchup. The last time these two teams faced off, Eureka fell 119-114.
