EUREKA – The Eureka men's basketball team has been selected third in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason poll.

The Red Devils received 35 points in the poll, which was conducted by league coaches, the SLIAC announced on Wednesday.

Fontbonne, last year's league champion, led the way with 47 points and five of eight first-place votes. Webster was next with 40 points and two first-place votes.

Blackburn, which won the SLIAC Tournament last year, came in one point behind Eureka with 34 points and one first-place vote.

Principia (21) and Westminster (20) followed, while Greenville (14) and Spalding (13) rounded out the poll.

Eureka is coming off a second-place finish in the SLIAC standings last year, recording a 10-4 record in SLIAC play and a 15-12 record overall. The Red Devils return two starters and SLIAC Watch List selections in seniors Logan Dorethy (Hamilton, Ill./West Hancock) and Charlie McKinty (Elmwood, Ill./Elmwood), as well as key contributors off the bench in Austyn Ellison (Hudson, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) and Andrew Gonzalez (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein).

On Friday, EC men's basketball will compete with and against EC women's basketball in a Maroon Madness intrasquad scrimmage after EC volleyball's Senior Night showdown against Fontbonne.

The maroon and gold will play SIUE in a road exhibition matchup on Wednesday, Nov. 2, and will officially open the 2022-23 season at Monmouth on Wednesday, Nov. 9.
