Men's basketball trio receives All-SLIAC honors

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Three Eureka College men's basketball players have been named to the 2015-16 All-St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Team, SLIAC Commissioner Angie Morenz announced Thursday night at the SLIAC Tournament in Jacksonville, Ill. Senior guard Sam Feehan (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame [Illinois Central]) was named to the First Team, freshman guard Shea Feehan (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame [Lewis]) was named Newcomer of the Year and selected to the Third Team and senior guard Greg Kent (Chicago, Ill./Richards [Blackhawk]) was honored on the All-Defensive Team.

The elder Feehan, who set Eureka's single-season scoring average averaging 22.1 points per game, finished his senior campaign with 530 points, 201 field goals made and 54 three-point field goals made. The Peoria native scored in double-figures in 23 of the 24 games he saw action in. He averaged 4.8 rebounds and totaled 57 assists and 21 steals. His .474 three-point field goal percentage ranks 9th in school history for a single season while his .822 free throw percentage ranks 8th. Feehan was selected as the SLIAC Player of the Week for Jan. 25.

Shea Feehan's Newcomer of the Year award is the first for the EC men's basketball program. The Lewis University transfer averaged 22.1 points per game and scored 287 points over 13 games, logging three starts. His .862 free throw percentage is the fourth-highest in a single season. Additionally, Feehan hauled in 4.8 rebounds per game and dished 29 assists. He was selected as the SLIAC Player of the Week for Feb. 8 after averaging 35.0 points per game over a two-game stretch in which he shot 71.0 percent from the field.

Kent, who also earned All-SLIAC Third Team accolades as a junior last season, finished his senior season as the team's leading rebounder (7.4 rpg) and tallied 67 steals, second-highest in a single season in school history. He averaged 8.3 ppg and dished 125 assists. Kent wraps up his two-year career in a Red Devils' uniform with 125 career steals, tied for 9th on the EC all-time list.

In addition to the trio of all-conference selections, Eureka senior Michael Sain (Columbus, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) was the Red Devils' representative on the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team. Sain appeared in twelve games, including one start, for EC this season, compiling 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists over 39 minutes of action.

Deavis Johnson, a senior from MacMurray, was named SLIAC Player of the Year. Greenville head coach Dr. George Barber received SLIAC Coach of the Year, while Westminster received the team sportsmanship award.

Eureka finished the regular season last Saturday with a 12-13 overall record and a 10-8 mark in the final SLIAC standings.
