Red Devils Stumble on the Road in 7-1 Loss to Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Eureka baseball team struggled to get its offense going on the road Friday, falling to Rockford 7-1.

The Regents took an early lead in the first inning, capitalizing on walks and a passed ball to score two runs. In the third inning, Ben Perrine (Payson, Ill./Payson Seymour) doubled, but the Red Devils couldn't bring him home, keeping the score at 2-0.

Eureka broke through in the fourth inning. Conor Fitzpatrick (North Barrington, Ill./Barrington) drew a walk, and Mike Dunne (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone) was hit by a pitch. Both advanced on a double steal, and Fitzpatrick scored on a throwing error by the catcher, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

The game remained tight through the middle innings, with both defenses holding firm. However, Rockford's four-run rally in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Bergstrom, extended their lead and proved decisive.

In the ninth inning, the Red Devils managed three singles but couldn't push any runs across, resulting in the 7-1 final.
