Red Devils Fall to Wabash on the Road, 8-1

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Eureka baseball team battled on the road but came up short against Wabash on Tuesday, falling 8-1.
The Red Devils threatened early in the first inning when Mike Dunne (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone) doubled to left center, but the opportunity slipped away as two runners were left stranded. Wabash also put two men on base in the bottom half of the inning but failed to capitalize, keeping the game scoreless through one.
In the fourth inning, Wabash took advantage of defensive errors by Eureka to plate two unearned runs. After a passed ball advanced Cvelbar to second, a throwing error allowed him to score. Another error brought home Neukam, giving Wabash a 2-0 lead.
The Red Devils found their breakthrough in the eighth inning. Conor Fitzpatrick (North Barrington, Ill./Barrington) worked a walk and advanced to third on a wild pitch and a groundout. Ben Perrine (Payson, Ill./Payson Seymour) then delivered a single to right field, driving in Fitzpatrick for Eureka's lone run of the game. However, two runners were left on base, preventing further damage to the Wabash lead.
Eureka attempted a late push in the ninth, starting with a single to left by Brandt King (Rockford, Ill./Stillman Valley). But Wabash quickly shut down the rally with a strikeout and a double play, securing the 8-1 victory.
