O'FALLON, Mo. – The top-seeded Webster baseball team handed Eureka a 20-1 defeat in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday.

The Red Devils (13-24) will take on Westminster (10-23) in an elimination game on Friday at 11 a.m. The Blue Jays also dropped a lopsided tournament game, falling 20-0 against Spalding in the nightcap.

On Thursday afternoon, the Gorloks built a 7-0 lead in the first two innings and didn't let up, adding two in the fourth, five in the fifth, one in the sixth, three in the seventh and two in the eighth.

The Red Devils plated their only run of the afternoon on an RBI double by Mike Dunne (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone/Lincoln Land) in the third inning.

Webster starting pitcher Deven Shulstad held Eureka to one run on seven hits and three walks while notching six strikeouts in seven innings of work. The maroon and gold used five pitchers on the day.

Dunne went 2-for-2 and senior Austin Davis (Eureka, Ill./Eureka) went 2-for-4. Braden Cox (Washington, Ill./Illini Bluffs/Black Hawk), Nick Rulevish (Addieville, Ill./Okawville) and Demetirus Schupp (La Salle, Ill./St. Bede Academy/Illinois Valley) each had a base hit.

Eureka's best opportunity for a rally on Tuesday when the team loaded the bases in the second inning, but came up empty.

The 2023 Red Devils are already the first team in program history to win a SLIAC Tournament game. With another win on Friday, they can top themselves.
