Eureka Falls Against Ripon, 9-1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Eureka baseball team fell 9-1 against Ripon in Memphis on Monday.

The Red Hawks held the Red Devils to one run on five hits and two walks.

Leading 1-0, Ripon broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning, and later, added a run in the seventh inning and tacked on three more in the eighth

Eureka's lone run came in the bottom of the eighth following an RBI double to center field by Chase Ulrich (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria/ICC). Prior to that, Cole Tanner (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone/Knox) reached on an error and Braden Cox (Washington, Ill./Illini Bluffs/Black Hawk) reached on fielder's choice. The Red Hawks got out of the inning with a strike out and a fly-out.

Cox, Nick Rulevish (Addieville, Ill./Okawville), Brandt King (Stillman Valley, Ill./Stillman Valley) and Austin Davis (Eureka, Ill./Eureka) all contributed singles in the loss. King also had a walk, as did Hayden McKenna (Sheridan, Ill./Marquette Academy).

Eureka's Rico Garcia (Peoria, Ill./Quest/Kishwaukee) made his first start as a Red Devil, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks in six innings. Michael Wiley (Cambridge, Ill./Cambridge) threw three innings in relief and gave up just one earned run on four hits and two walks.

Ty Kapp (Downs, Ill./Tri Valley) contributed one hitless and scoreless inning, walking out two but striking out two.

Eureka (2-5) will turn around and take on Alfred State (6-2) on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
