GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Eureka baseball team headed to Greenville on Monday, looking to complete its first series sweep over the Panthers in program history.

It didn't come together. The Panthers flipped the script with a 14-1 win in seven innings.

Eureka's Caleb Wilson (Houma, La./Covington Christian) scored a run in the first inning off a passed ball in the first inning, but the Panthers got it back in the bottom half. In the second, things went off track for the Red Devils, as the home team scored six runs on three hits, four walks and an error.

After that, the Panthers scored at least one run in every inning except for one, tallying 17 hits. Greenville's Luke Fleener limited Eureka to one run on three hits and two walks while striking out seven batters in seven innings.

Eureka starting pitcher Parker Brodine (Brimfield, Ill./Elmwood-Brimfield) got into trouble in the second and exited after 1 1/3 innings. He conceded seven runs on five hits and four walks before handing it off to freshman Sheldon Geuvens (Eureka, Ill./Eureka). Geuvens went 3 1/3 and tallied three strikeouts while allowing three runs on seven hits and one walks.

Tate Stone (Washington, Ill./Washington) followed Geuvens in the sixth inning, allowing four runs on five hits and had a strikeout.

At the plate, Austin Davis (Eureka, Ill./Eureka), Karter Hostetler (Morton, Ill./Morton) and Braden Cox (Washington, Ill./Illini Bluffs/Black Hawks) contributed hits for the Red Devils.

The Panthers played sharp, clean defense the whole night, committing zero errors and taking away several would-be hits for the maroon and gold.

On Saturday, the Red Devils (11-8, 4-2 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) will continue SLIAC play against Spalding (10-9, 2-1 SLIAC) at 1 p.m.
