IRVING, Texas – The Eureka baseball team took down Capital for the second time this week to close out a successful spring break trip in Texas on Thursday.

The Red Devils piled up a season-high 17 hits, including six doubles, to score an 18-6 victory. The win moved the team to 5-2 on the week in Texas and 7-4 on the season.

It's EC baseball's best record through 11 games in the program's modern era (since 2000).

Every player in the Red Devils' batting order recorded at least one hit and one run scored, six recorded two hits or more and the top two in the order had three hits apiece.

Leadoff hitter Caleb Wilson (Houma, La./Covington Christian) went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored, while No. 2 hitter David Hidden (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored.

No. 3 hitter Jimmy Peterson (Bloomington, Ill./Homeschooled/Monmouth) went 2-for-3 with a double, drove in a pair of runs and scored three times.

Lane Marlow (Camp Point, Ill./Camp Point Central/Roosevelt) had two hits, including a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Dylan Hill (Steeleville, Ill./Steeleville) went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, and Nathan Garard (Gibson City, Ill./Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley) added a pair of singles, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Also recording hits and making contributions in the Red Devils' lineup were Braden Cox (Washington, Ill./Illini Bluffs/Black Hawk), Karter Hostetler (Morton, Ill./Morton) and Nick Rulevish (Addieville, Ill./Okawville).

On the mound, freshman Sheldon Geuvens (Eureka, Ill./Eureka) made his first collegiate start and recorded the win after striking out nine batters in eight innings and limiting Capital to six runs on 14 hits and three walks.

He got help from the defense behind him. For the third time this season, Eureka's defense didn't commit any errors.

Hill put the Red Devils on the board with an RBI double in the second inning that scored Cox, but Capital scored three runs in the next two innings to take a 3-1 lead.

Eureka got it back with a four-run fourth inning and extended it to eight runs with a six-run fifth. Capital scratched one across in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but the Red Devils added seven more runs in the last two innings to nail down the rout.

The Red Devils (7-4) return to campus on Friday and will head to Jacksonville on Sunday for a pair of non-conference tests against Elmhurst (3-2) and Illinois Tech (0-4). First pitch is set for 11:30 a.m.
