EUREKA – For the first time, Eureka's Nathan Garard (Gibson City, Ill./Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley) is the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.

It's the Red Devils' first time earning the honor in back-to-back weeks in program history, following Parker Brodine's (Brimfield, Ill./Elmwood-Brimfield) selection last Monday.

Garard made a strong case for winning it this week after striking out 14 batters and coming two outs away from completing a no-hitter in a 7-1 over Knox at the Corn Crib last Wednesday.

In his first start of the season, the junior right-hander nearly went the distance, allowing just one hit, one earned run and two walks in 8 1/2 innings. It was the most strikeouts in a game by a Eureka pitching since Isaiah Taylor fanned 17 batters in a 6-2 win at Iowa Wesleyan on April 13, 2018.
