EUREKA – The Eureka baseball team couldn't snag a win on the road at Fontbonne this weekend.

After falling 10-5 in Game 1 on Saturday, the Red Devils fell 17-1 in the resumption of a Game 2 that was suspended due to rain on Saturday, then lost Games 3 and 4 of the series, 12-6 and 13-2.

Game 2: Fontbonne 17, Eureka 1 (7 inn.)

Eureka scored one run on seven hits, with Karter Hostetler (Morton, Ill./Morton) doubling to drive in Kyle Christman (Peru, Ill./La Salle-Peru) in the sixth inning.

Jelby Cheramie (Lockport, La./South Laforche) went 3-for-3 for the Red Devils with singles in the third, fifth and seventh inning.

Game 3: Fontbonne 12, Eureka 6

Eureka tallied six runs on three hits and one Fontbonne error in the first inning.

Jimmy Peterson (Bloomington, Ill./Homeschooled) started it off with a leadoff single to center field and a steal of second base.

Alex Barney (Sheldon, Ill./Milford) and Christman were then each hit by a pitch and Hostetler doubled to drive in two. Braden Cross (Clinton, Ill./Clinton) singled and drove in another, Cheramie reached on a fielder's choice to bring in one more.

After that, Dylan Hill (Steeleville, Ill./Steeleville) reached on an error and Dawson Swaim (Milmine, Ill./Bement) reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases for Tate Stone (Washington, Ill./Washington), who was hit by a pitch to make it 5-0.

Peterson reached on fielder's choice, but the Griffins got the out at home, then Barney walked to extend the lead to six runs before a pop-up ended the rally.

The problem was that Fontbonne responded with eight runs on three hits and two walks in the bottom half and tacked on two in the second and two more in the sixth. The Red Devils, meanwhile, couldn't manufacture another run the rest of the way.

Game 4: Fontbonne 13, Eureka 2

For the second game in a row, Fontbonne rallied early, notching seven runs in the first inning. The Griffins later added three runs in third and three more in the fifth.

The Red Devils didn't get on the board until the seventh, when Hill delivered a two-runs single to drive in Trevor Wingard (Decatur, Ill./Merdian) and Christman.

Peterson, Hill and Cheramie all had two hits for the visitors.
