ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Eureka baseball team fell short 10-5 in a series-opening game at Fontbonne on Saturday.
The Red Devils were tied at 5-5 after scoring two runs in the sixth inning, but Fontbonne came back in the bottom half and took a 6-5 lead, then rallied their way to four more in the eighth.
Dean Moir (Coal City, Ill./Coal City) went 2-for-3 with a double for the Red Devils. Kyle Christman (Peru, Ill./La Salle-Peru) had a two-run single in the sixth to the game, and Jelby Cheramie (Lockport, La./South Laforche) and Dylan Hill (Steelville, Ill./Steeleville) each drove in runs as well.
The Red Devils were down 11-0 when Game 2 was suspended due to inclement weather. The team will wrap up that game and play two more against Fontbonne on Sunday at 11 a.m.
