Karissa Heffernan Named SLIAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Eureka's Karissa Heffernan (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) returned from winter break as strong as she headed into it, earning this week's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week. After winning five SLIAC weekly honors in 2023, including an award on December 11th for her performance in the first track event of the spring distance season, Heffernan has taken 2024 in stride.

At the Monmouth Midwest Invitational on Saturday, Heffernan won both events that she competed in: the women's mile and the 3000 meter run. She won the mile race with a time of 5:39.28, crossing the line more than 15 seconds sooner than Knox's Cecilia Goodin, who took second. Later, she dominated the field in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:27.55, finishing a full minute ahead of the second place finisher from Knox, Serena Delgadillo.

The Red Devils distance team will be back in action at the Illinois Wesleyan Bob Keck Invite on Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. CST.
