Eureka Drops Doubleheader at Webster

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Webster took a pair of St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games against the Eureka softball team on Sunday, winning 8-0 in five innings and 9-2.

Game 1: Webster 8, Eureka 0 (5 inn.)

Eureka pitcher Claire Wuethrich (Peoria, Ill./Peoria Christian) held the Gorloks to one run for the first four innings. Then, in the fifth, the home team rallied for seven runs on six hits and one EC error to end it early.

Webster ace Reese Waggoner limited the Red Devils to just four hits on the game.

Lexi Liptak (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) went 2-for-2, while Macey Whisker (Washington, Ill./Washington/Illinois Central College) and Christine Mepham (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) each contributed a base hit.

Liptak and Mepham also each had a stolen base.

Game 2: Webster 9, Eureka 2

The Red Devils were within a run after four innings of play, but Webster managed to make it a two-run game in the fifth and then broke it open with a five-run sixth.

Eureka scored its pair of runs in the third inning. Gada Bryant (Westville, Ill./Westville/Lincoln) and Whisker set the table with a pair of singles. After that, Bryant scored on a dropped third strike and Whisker crossed the plate on an RBI single by Kaylee Hohlbauch (Arcola, Ill./Arcola/Lincoln).

Whisker went 2-for-4 to lead the Red Devils at the plate.

Also contributing hits were Klaire Morris (Laurel, Mont./Billings Skyview/Williston State) and Kacy Dunlap (Mount Sterling, Ill./Brown County).
