NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Eureka softball team's spring break trip at North Myrtle Beach came to an end on Wednesday.

The Red Devils fell 12-2 against a hard-hitting Cedar Crest squad in the first game of the day before a storm rolled in and canceled the last game of the tournament against Gettysburg.

The maroon and gold struggled to get the bats against Cedar rest pitcher BB Aquila, only notching two hits in five innings.

Eureka got on the board first after two walks and two stolen bases by Raelyn Payne (Lexington, Ill./Lexington) and Tressa Grisham (Morton, Ill./East Peoria) led to sacrifice fly RBI by MacKenzie Daniels (Monticello, Ill./Monticello) and Bria Wessel (Peoria, Ill./Limestone).

However, Cedar Crest posted four runs on five hits in the bottom half to take the lead.

There was a lightning delay in the second inning, but when play resumed, the Falcons picked up where they left off, posting four runs in the second, three in the third and one more in the fourth.

Wessel recorded he Red Devils' first hit of the day with two outs in the third inning, but was left stranded along with Mackenzie Daniels (Monticello, Ill./Monticello), who walked.

The following inning, Christine Mepham (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) singled and Abby Newmister (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) reached on a fielder's choice, but she was left on base, too.

The Red Devils (1-4) will head home on Thursday and start preparing for next Saturday's home-opening doubleheader against Rose-Hulman (8-2) at 12 p.m. on Sweitzer Field.
