Red Devils split on the road with Panthers

GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Eureka College softball team dropped their first contest in the month of April, falling 2-1 in game one of a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against Greenville, but rebounded to win game two, 2-1. The loss snaps a remarkable 16-game winning streak.

Freshman Kerrigan Dura (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) and Kali George(East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) each collected a pair of hits in the first contests.

George fell for just the second time this season, pitching the distance while allowing one earned run. The right-hander struck out four and walked a pair.

In the nightcap, senior Savanna Tapper (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) got things going with a leadoff home run, her fourth of the season, only to see the Panthers tie the contest in the home half of the inning.

Later in the third inning George roped a single that scored Dura and proved to be the only run the Red Devils would need.

Junior Rachel Patterson (Tremont, Ill./Tremont [ICC]) notched the win in the circle, allowing one earned run over 7.0 innings. Patterson struck out three and walked three.

The Red Devils are back at home tomorrow with a non-conference doubleheader against the Prairie State College Pioneers. Prior to the start of game one EC will honor their senior softball players.
