Griffins send Red Devils home in SLIAC Tournament

ELSAH, Ill. – The Eureka College softball team fell 2-1 to Fontbonne University in day two of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, Friday afternoon at Principia College. The loss eliminates the Red Devils from post-season play.

Sophomore Kali George (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) put the Red Devils ahead early with an RBI-single down the third base line to score classmate Krysten Wallace (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone) in the top of the first.

Fontbonne captured the lead in the fourth inning off an RBI-triple and sacrifice fly to left field, putting the Griffins ahead 2-1.

The Red Devils had runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh innings but were unable to bring in the tying run.

George limited the Griffins to just three hits in the contest, striking out two and walking none.

Offensively the Red Devils tallied seven hits, all singles by seven different EC hitters.

Fourth-year head coach Debi Neff says goodbye to three seniors, including four-year starter Savanna Tapper (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria), but will welcome back the bulk of her lineup next season.
