ELMHURST, Ill. – After a high-scoring weekend, the Eureka baseball team couldn't string together rallies on Tuesday.

The Red Devils dropped a 15-6 non-conference contest at Elmhurst.

The Blue Jays limited EC to five runs on eight hits while consistently putting runs on the board.

It started with a four-run first inning for the home team. Eureka responded with a pair of runs in the second inning, but the home team notched three more in the bottom half and two more in the inning after that.

Sam Buduris (Shorewood, Ill./Minooka/McKendree) and Chase Ulrich (East Peoria) posted back-to-back doubles in the second inning to put EC on the board, and two batters later, an RBI single by Garrett Flaagan (Eagle, Colo./Eagle Valley/Williston State) plated EC's second run.

Two innings later, Ulrich homered for the second straight game and the third time this season. Flaagan doubled and then scored on error to make it 9-4. The Blue Jays, however, added two more in the bottom half.

An inning later, Buduris scored on another Elmhurst fielding error to make it 11-5.

The Blue Jays' final rally was a five-run sixth inning, and the Red Devils went down in order in the seventh to end it early.

Ulrich went 2-for-4 with the homer, a double and two RBI. Bururis, Flaagan and Nickolas Cartmill (Burleson, Texas/Burleson/Bacone) each went 2-for-4 with a double. Cartmill also had a pair of stolen bases and Buduris had one.

On Thursday, Eureka (16-16) will return home to host Maranatha Baptist (0-31) in a 2 p.m. non-conference doubleheader at Henry Sand Field.
