Eureka Drops Two Matches at Millikin Invitational

DECATUR, Ill. – The Eureka volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Millikin Invitational over the weekend.

The Red Devils lost to Central (Iowa) in four sets and fell in three against Simpson.

The final scores of the first match against the Dutch were 19-25, 13-25, 25-23, 23-25. The final scores of the last match of the tournament against the Storm were 9-25, 21-25, 16-25. 

Sophomore outside hitter Brooklyn Shell (Evansville, Ind./Mount Vernon) led Eureka in kills in both matches. She had 10 kills and three aces against Central and then had eight kills against Simpson.

In the Central match, Alexis Charlton (Eureka, Ill./Eureka) and Madison Richards (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) each followed with seven kills, while Frannie Heckman (Benson, Ill./Roanoke-Benseon) added six kills, along with two solo blocks. Libero Regan Reed (Flanagan, Ill./Flanagan-Cornell) tallied a team-high 14 digs.

Taylor Richards led the Dutch with 14 kills at the net. In the back row, Ivett Flores, Sam Worley and Avery Rexroat each had 22 digs.

In the Simpson match, Charlton and Heckman each had five kills. Reed contributed 11 digs and Sara Hart (Secor, Ill./Eureka) distributed 15 assists.

Jessica Jacobs had a match-high 10 kills for the Storm. Marissa Saliber registered 30 assists and Iman Ghalibaf had 11 digs.

Eureka will look to come back strong on Tuesday when the Red Devils (5-11, 0-5 SLIAC) host Principia (0-7, 0-5 SLIAC) in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Christine Bonati Arena. First serve is at 7 p.m.
