Eureka Falls at Spalding, 3-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Eureka volleyball team hung around for two of three sets at Spalding on Saturday, but the Golden Eagles managed to finish strong and earn a sweep. The final score was 25-16, 25-17, 25-13.

Eureka got off to a slow start in the first set and Spalding took advantage of it. In the second and third sets, however, the Red Devils kept it close until midway through when the Golden Eagles found their groove.

The home team was up by only three points when it ripped off a 7-2 run to end the second set. Similarly, Spalding closed with a 10-2 run to end the final set.

For Eureka, senior Corinne DeBoard (Centralia, Ill./Christ Our Rock Lutheran) posted a team-high seven kills on 25 attacks.

Freshman Alexis Charlton (Eureka, Ill./Eureka) and senior Megan Masching (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac) each contributed four. Libero Jordyn Fox (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac) produced 12 digs and two aces, and setters Faith Catour (Orion, Ill./Orion) and Baylor Cluver (Watseka, Ill./Watseka) combined for 14 assists.

Katelin Peters (New Berlin, Ill./New Berlin) came up with three of the team's seven total blocks.

Spalding's Jayda Branch posted a double-double of 11 kills and 19 digs for the Golden Eagles, while Mya Summers dished 20 assists.

Eureka volleyball has a break from competition this week. On Saturday, the Red Devils will take on Webster in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at 1 p.m.
