Blackburn Bests Red Devils, 3-0
CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The Blackburn volleyball got the best of Eureka on Tuesday, sweeping the Red Devils in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. The final scores were 25-12, 25-23, 25-17.
It was the Beavers' first win of the season and in SLIAC play.
Eureka's Emma Harris (Streator, Ill./Streator) tallied eight kills on 18 attacks in the loss for the maroon and gold, recording a .team-high .333 hitting percentage.
Brooklyn Shell (Evansville, Ind./Mount Vernon) and Corinne DeBoard (Centralia, Ill./Christ Our Rock Lutheran) followed with six and five kills, respectively.
Freshman Baylor Cluver (Watseka, Ill./Watseka) tallied a team-high 14 assists for the first time, and Jordyn Fox (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac) racked up a team-high 15 digs. Katelin Peters (New Berlin, Ill./New Berlin) posted three solo blocks.
On the other side of the net, Blackburn spread out 34 kills among seven plays, with Emilie King and Kyleigh Marty each putting up a team-high eight.
The third set featured six ties and four lead changes, but the Beavers held on to secure the sweep.
On Friday, Eureka (4-13, 0-5 SLIAC) will host Westminster (7-9, 3-1 SLIAC) at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena at 6 p.m. for Senior Night.
