Eureka Volleyball Splits Five-Set Matches at Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Eureka volleyball split a pair of five-set marathons on the road at Rockford on Friday.

First, EC fell short against the home team, 22-25, 25-27, 25-26, 25-27, 13-15 in the early evening. Then, the Red Devils edged Lawrence, 14-25, 25-18, 25-18, 20-25, 15-9, late.

In the first match, freshman Brooklyn Shell (Evansville, Ind./Mount Vernon) racked up a career-high 22 kills while hitting .230 and senior Corinne DeBoard (Centralia, Ill./Christ Our Rock Lutheran) added 14 kills while hitting .264.

Libero Jordyn Fox (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac) racked up a team-high 33 digs, Regan Reed followed with 25 and DeBoard and Shell both had 17.

Setter Faith Catour distributed 45 assists, and Reed, Catour and Shell all had three aces.

In the victory over Lawrence, Shell led the way again with 16 kills, Catour registered 20 assists and 14 digs.

Eureka next heads to Monmouth for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday.
