Eureka Volleyball Unveils 2019 Schedule

EUREKA — The 2019 Eureka College volleyball schedule has officially been finalized, and first-year coach Nick Mackall and the Red Devils are counting down the days until the season begins.

The Red Devils' 2019 schedule features an early-season tournament, 10 home matches, the traditional 18-match St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference slate and 28 total regular-season matches.

"I could not be more excited to have an opportunity to guide this program into the 2019 season and beyond," Mackall said. "The student-athletes in our program strive to create the positive shift for the short- and long-term future that Eureka College and this program deserve to experience. I like where we are now after a successful training cycle in the spring."

The real competition starts with a non-conference season-opening match at Monmouth on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m. before the Red Devils head to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for the two-day Blue Angels Bash at Mount Mary University on Sept. 6-7.

On Friday, EC will open tourney play against North Central (Minn.) at 4:45 p.m., then take on Mount Mary at 7 p.m. The next morning, the maroon and gold will start the day against Beloit at 9:30 p.m. and close the tournament against Silver Lake at 12:15 p.m.

Eureka's home opener will take place against Benedictine on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. inside Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center.

The Red Devils will then open SLIAC league play in a Saturday, Sept. 21 quad at Iowa Wesleyan, where they will face Iowa Wesleyan, Westminster and Principia.

EC will host Fontbonne for its first home SLIAC match on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. before welcoming Blackburn, Greenville and Fontbonne for a home quad on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Of the 18 league matches, seven will be at home. The home non-conference schedules includes meetings with Benedictine (Sept. 11), Dominican (Oct. 1) and Monmouth (Oct. 8).

Senior day is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. against Iowa Wesleyan.

The Red Devils are set to return seven players from last year's 6-22 team.

"I appreciate the past and the lessons it taught our program, but our approach to the future will be to attack every opportunity we have to consistently be our best at first serve and final whistle," Mackall said. "We have a lot of work to do to get Eureka consistently in the SLIAC conversation for the right reasons, but I am confident our work ethic will define this new era of Eureka volleyball, and will demonstrate what it means to be 'Uniquely Eureka' here as a student-athlete."
