Red Devils Split Over Weekend

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Eureka College volleyball team earned a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference split, falling to Westminster 25-15, 25-19, 25-11, before rebounding to top Blackburn, 19-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-23, Saturday in Jacksonville, Ill.

Sophomore Anna Gauger (El Paso, Ill./El Paso-Gridley) led the offensive attack in game one, tallying five kills on 16 attempts, while fellow classmate Meagan Hanney (Sherman, Ill./Williamsville) recorded a team-high nine assists.

Defensively, freshman Heather Robinson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) led the charge with 15 digs, and sophomore Cassandra Beesley (Bunker Hill, Ill./Bunker Hill) was next with 11 digs.

In the night cap, the Red Devils rallied after dropping the first set to win the next three sets. Robinson was all over for Eureka, providing 12 kills, 10 assists and 16 digs in the victory. Beesley totaled 48 digs in the contest, the most by a Red Devil in a single game since Courtney Kincaid totaled that same amount against Fontbonne on Sept. 24, 2011. The total is good enough for second all-time in a single match in school history.

Eureka will continue SLIAC play Tuesday when they host the Westminster Blue Jays for a 7 p.m. match at Eureka High School.
