Spalding Outduels Eureka in SLIAC Match

EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka College volleyball team fell to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Spalding Golden Eagles, 20-25, 19-25, 16-25, Wednesday night in the Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center on the Campus of Eureka College.

Freshman opposite Heather Robinson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) and sophomore outside hitter Anna Gauger (El Paso, Ill./El Paso-Gridley) led the Eureka offensive charge with 7 kills each. Sophomore setter Meagan Hanney (Sherman, Ill./Williamsville) tallied a team-best 16 assists in the three sets.

Defensively, freshman defensive specialist Jordan Detmers (Hartsburg, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden) notched 13 digs, while fellow classmate Robinson added six. Robinson and freshman middle back Gabrielle Moody (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) each picked up a solo block, with Moody also adding an assisted block.

A quick turnaround, the Red Devils will head to Jacksonville, Ill. tomorrow for a 7 p.m. conference battle against MacMurray College. The matchup versus the Highlanders will be the only remaining scheduled contest for the Red Devils this week.
