ELSAH, Ill. – The Eureka women's soccer team tied its season-high in goals on Tuesday evening, but Principia kept the upper hand, winning 6-3 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.

Freshman Jenna Kinney (Washington, Ill./Washington) notched her first career multi-goal performance and Daniela Gonzales (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods/Lincoln) found the back of the net for the first time this season.

The Red Devils, who were playing shorthanded due to recent injuries, made the most of their opportunities in the attacking third, scoring on all three of their shots in the match.

The Panthers scored the first five goals of the match over the course of the first 33 minutes.

Eureka got on the board right before the end of the half. A Principia handball occurred about 30 yards away from the frame, and Gonzales proceeded to blast a free kick right over the keeper's head with less than 10 seconds until the whistle.

Then, early in the second half, the maroon and gold struck again when Kinney took a breakaway from half field, beat two defenders and poked it past the keeper.

Principia answered in the 60th minute to make it 6-2, but a late penalty kick by Kinney gave Eureka a 2-1 advantage in the second half. The maroon and gold's young striker capitalized on the opportunity given to her after a big collision in the box resulted in a PK, placing it by the keeper on the right side for her fourth goal of the fall.

Viviane de Castro led the way for the Panthers, posting a hat trick with an assist. Kannon Gill scored the home team's first goal in the eighth minute and Kaija Ufert made it 5-0 in the 33rd. Dafne Muniz finished the last Principia goal on an assist by DeCastro in the 60th minute.

Eureka goalkeeper Lizzie Brooksher (Saint Charles, Mo./Saint Charles) -- who was named SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday -- started the match in the field, but she took over for Hope Binder (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone) 30 minutes in and made six saves. Binder recorded a pair of saves as well.

The Red Devils (2-3, 1-2 SLIAC) will next head to Spalding (2-3, 1-1) for another SLIAC showdown on Saturday at 12 p.m. CT.
