Eureka Women’s Basketball Defeats Lyon 91-67

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Eureka College women's basketball team secured a 91-67 victory over Lyon College on Thursday afternoon. The result gives Eureka their first win over Lyon in just the third meeting between the two programs.
In the first quarter, the Red Devils established an early lead with a 13-0 run, highlighted by Maxine Najera's (Riverside, Calif./Hillcrest) defensive prowess, recording multiple steals and contributing to the score with 5 points. Najera's 9 steals in the game are tied for the 5th most in a single game in program history. Sierra Garcia-Reisch (Las Animas, Colo./La Junta) added to the momentum with a fast-break jumper. Despite the Scots' late rally to close the gap, including a 3-pointer by Emily Walley at the buzzer, the Red Devils maintained a 24-18 advantage by the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter, the Red Devils capitalized on turnovers and strong rebounding to outscore the Scots 25-19. Sierra Garcia-Reisch was pivotal, scoring 8 points in the quarter. Miya Webb (Indianapolis, Ind./Brownsburg) and Maxine Najera each provided valuable scoring bursts, with Webb hitting a 3-pointer late in the half and Najera making multiple jump shots. The Red Devils maintained a lead despite the Scots' attempts to close the gap, ending the quarter with a 49-37 advantage.
In the third quarter, the Red Devils secured a 22-19 advantage over the Scots, highlighted by aggressive play in the paint and fast breaks. Maxine Najera contributed significantly with an early layup and an assist to Sierra Garcia-Reisch, who followed with another layup. Miya Webb was active from the free-throw line, successfully converting four attempts, while Allannah Jackson (Peoria, Ill./Peoria) and Josie Ness (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) each added key baskets to maintain the Red Devils' lead.
In the fourth quarter, the Red Devils outscored the Scots 20-11, fueled by strong performances from Sierra Garcia-Reisch, who contributed eight points, and Josie Ness, who made significant plays including a key layup. Miya Webb was instrumental in setting up plays, recording multiple assists, while Elena Redgate (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) added critical points in the latter part of the quarter. Despite the Scots' attempts to close the gap, including a fast-break layup by Olivia Jones, the Red Devils maintained control, capitalizing on the Scots' turnovers to secure the 91-67 victory.
Miya Webb made a significant impact for the Red Devils, contributing 20 points with a strong shooting performance of 7-14 from the field and 2-3 from beyond the arc. Webb also added 7 assists and 7 rebounds. Sierra Garcia-Reisch led the team with 23 points, connecting on 10 of her 19 attempts, and was a defensive force with 6 steals. She also achieved a double-double by collecting 10 rebounds, marking her first career double-double. Josie Ness was a key player on the boards, securing 12 rebounds to go along with her 13 points, marking her first double-double of the season. Maxine Najera was instrumental defensively with a team-high 9 steals, while also contributing 11 points and 6 assists.
