Red Devils Complete Sweep of Beavers, 81-46

EUREKA – The Eureka women's basketball team completed a season series sweep over Blackburn with an 81-46 victory over the Beavers in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday.

It took the Red Devils until the second half to find their groove on the offensive end, but once they did, there was no looking back.

After only leading by four points at halftime, the Red Devils poured in 46 points in the second half – the same amount of points the Beavers scored all game – to pull away for the win.

Eureka held the visitors to just 15 points in the second half and forced a season-high 40 turnovers and snagged a season-high 28 steals on the game.

Freshman Reece Putrich (Farmington, Ill./Farmington Central) finished with a season-high 15 points while going 5-for-6 from the free-throw line and making a pair of 3-pointers. She also contributed four rebounds, four steals, two assists and a block.

Abby Stotler (Wyoming, Ill./Stark County/MacMurray), Sydney Hannam (Canton, Ill./Canton/Spoon River) and Jurnee Flournoy (Decatur, Ill./Decatur MacArthur) each notched 12 points. Stotler tallied a team-high seven rebounds and had three assists and a block. Hannam recorded six steals and had three rebounds and an assist. Flournoy added five boards, steals and two assists.

Savanah Moore (Clinton, Ill./Mount Pulaski/MacMurray) was one point and one steal short of a double-double, finishing with nine points, nine steals, six rebounds and two assists.

Josie Ness (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) contributed eight points, six rebounds, three steals and a block. Avery Seidel (Wayne City, Ill./Wayne City/Lincoln Christian) posted a season-high eight points and two 3s for the first time this season, and Madi Jernigan (Peoria, Ill./Limestone/Blackburn) chipped in with an even five points, five rebounds and five assists.

Courtney Riley led the Beavers with a double-double of 21 points and 14 rebounds.

EC's win snapped a four-game losing streak. Eureka (6-14, 3-6 SLIAC) will next turn its attention to hosting Westminster (12-8, 6-3) at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center on Saturday at 1 p.m.
