Illinois Wesleyan Pulls Away from Red Devils, 87-55

EUREKA – After a tight first quarter, Illinois Wesleyan pulled away from the Eureka women's basketball team and earned an 87-55 win at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils were neck-and-neck with the Titans in the first frame. They led by six points seven minutes into the game, held the Titans to 4-for-14 shooting from the field and went into the second quarter with a two-point advantage.

In the second quarter, however, the Titans found their groove and racked up 32 points on 66.7 percent shooting. The Red Devils stayed with them for the first five minutes, but the visitors went into halftime on a 17-2 run and stayed in control the rest of the way.

Senior Sydney Hannam (Canton, Ill./Canton/Spoon River) finished with a team-high 15 points for the Red Devils, along with three rebounds, three steals, one assist and one block.

Abby Stotler (Wyoming, Ill./Stark County/MacMurray) followed with 11 points and eight boards, while Shakaya Rogers (Hanover, Mich./Concord/Glen Oaks) added nine points, three assists, two steals and two rebounds.

In her first start of the season, sophomore Josie Ness (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) gathered a team-high 12 rebounds while also leading the team with five assists and contributing five points, three steals and one block.

Reece Putrich (Farmington, Ill./Farmington Central) and Madison Jernigan (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone/Blackburn) had seven and six points, respectively.

Illinois Wesleyan's Kate Palmer posted a team-high 21 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the floor and 5-for-7 shooting from distance. Katelyn Heller put up 18 points on 9-for-13 shooting and gathered a team-high seven rebounds.

Kelly Carlson and Lauren Huber had 14 and 11 points, respectively.

The Red Devils (1-3) will next host Kalamazoo (0-3) at the Reagan Athletic Complex on Sunday at 1 p.m.
