Spalding Pulls Away From Red Devils, 87-53

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Eureka women's basketball team got the edge over Spalding last month.

But in Saturday's rematch, the Golden Eagles pulled away from the Red Devils and secured a season series split with an 87-53 victory in Louisville.

Ashley Harfst (Saunemin, Ill./Pontiac) contributed a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Red Devils.

Whitney Bozarth (Normal, Ill./Normal West) posted a game-high 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field, while Jadyn Mitchell (Flanagan, Ill./Flanagan-Cornel) added 11 off the bench while knocking down a pair of 3-pointers.

Olivia Falls (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) gathered seven boards.

Eureka had its moments in the first half. The Red Devils were within four points after the first quarter and were only down nine at halftime.

The maroon and gold posted 21 points on 53.3 percent shooting in the second quarter, but overall, the team couldn't maintain that consistency.

EC also scored 19 points of tallied 23 Spalding turnovers on the day and had 10 steals.

Spalding shot 44.4 percent from the floor and put away 14 of 30 3-pointers.

Kailey Reed hit three 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 17 points. Megan Goeing and Hunter Wright each added 12 points, while Kendyl Powell and Hannah Renfro had 10 points apiece off the bench.

On Wednesday, the Red Devils (13-10, 9-7 SLIAC) will face Webster (16-7, 14-2) in their final away game of the regular season at 5:30 p.m.
