Eureka Completes Sweep of Blackburn with Ease, 71-41

EUREKA — The Eureka women's basketball team held Blackburn to single digits in the first half en route to a 71-41 victory over the Beavers on Saturday.

The win completed the Red Devils' first St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sweep of the 2019-2020 season and moved EC to 6-4 in the SLIAC and 10-8 overall.

The Red Devils did it by way of spreading the ball around and nearly getting every player in double figures.

Whitney Bozarth (Normal, Ill./Normal West) finished with a team-high 16 points while hitting four 3-pointers.

Olivia Falls (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) and Ja'Keesha Hawkins (Peoria, Ill./Peoria) each tallied 12 points and were one rebound short of a double-double.

Jadyn Mitchell contributed 12 points off the bench. Ashley Harfst (Saunemin, Ill./Pontiac) added 10 and nine, plus a team-high five assists, and Marissa Murphy (Canton, Ill./Canton) produced a solid line of nine points, eight rebounds, seven steals and four assists.

The Red Devils shot 53.3 percent from the field in the first quarter and jumped out a 23-5 lead and only allowed two points in the second quarter, making it 43-7 at halftime.

EC led by as many as 38 in the fourth quarter. The win was the maroon and gold's 18th straight over the Beavers.

The Red Devils (10-8, 6-4) will look to complete another series sweep on Tuesday when winless league foe Principia (0-14, 0-10) comes to Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center.
