EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka College sophomore guard Ashley Harfst (Saunemin, Ill./Pontiac H.S.) earned her first collegiate double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Kennedy Dura (Edwards, Ill./Brimfield H.S.) put up a double-double of her own with 16 points and 11 assists, but visiting Greenville broke a 74-74 tie with 3:52 left in the fourth quarter en route to an 85-80 triumph over the Red Devils in Wednesday's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena.

The Red Devils broke open a tight game midway through the first quarter. A Samantha Sarnes (Havana, Ill./Havana H.S.) layup broke a 6-6 tie and put the wheels in motion on a 14-4 run that culminated in a 20-10 lead after a Hayley Reneau (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S./Illinois Central) basket. Eureka led 25-16 at the end of the period.

EC led by as many as 14 after a Reneau 3-pointer made it 30-16 just 80 seconds into the second quarter. GU immediately punched back with nine in a row to pull within 30-25 after Maria Reinhard's basket at the 6:48 mark of the quarter. The Red Devils used a burst of their own by scoring 15 of the next 22 points and ultimately led 49-37 at intermission.

Greenville used the third quarter to slowly erase its double-digit hole. Emily Brandland hit a 3-pointer for a 58-58 tie with 3:08 to play in the frame. Dura's free throw moved EC back in front and the Red Devils were in front 66-63 at the end of the quarter.

The Panthers pulled even again, 74-74, when Megan Barrett split a pair of free throws with 5:00 left in regulation. Brittany Lopez gave GU the lead just 68 seconds later with a 3-pointer and the Panthers led the rest of the way. Kerrigan Dura (Edwards, Ill./Brimfield H.S.) got EC back within a point, but GU hit another 3 from Jantzen Michael with 2:30 to go to lead 80-76. Eureka wouldn't get another possession with the opportunity to tie the game.

Sarnes scored a career-high 17 points. Kerrigan Dura led the Red Devils with 12 rebounds. Kennedy Dura had 11 assists for the second consecutive outing. Reneau led EC with 19 points and had eight steals.

Eureka will hit the road for its next SLIAC game, a 1 p.m. tip-off at MacMurray this Saturday in Jacksonville, Ill.
