Camden's record night leads to Eureka's sixth straight victory
JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Eureka College women's basketball senior Emily Camden (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central) surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career in the first half and broke the women's school record for most three-point field goals made in a career in the second half, lifting the Red Devils to an 87-55 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over the MacMurray Highlanders, Wednesday night inside Wall Gymnasium.
Eureka has now rallied off six straight victories to move to 9-11 overall and 8-5 in conference play. The loss drops MacMurray to 2-18 overall and 2-11 in the league.
Camden becomes the 16th female basketball player to surpass the 1,000-point mark, last achieved by former teammate Kelsey Shoemake last season. She now holds the career three-point field goal record with 197, passing Brittany Gardner's previous school record of 195 set in 2008.
Junior forward Michaela Balducci (Eureka, Ill./Eureka) led all scorers with 20 points on 8-of-12 (.667) shooting from the field, adding five rebounds and five steals.
Sophomore Tatum Dowell (Morton, Ill./Morton [MacMurray]), a transfer from MacMurray, tallied four points off the bench to post her first points of the season. Classmate Krysten Wallace (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone) came off the bench to add a season-high ten points, shooting 3-of-4 from the field, including a perfect 2-of-2 from both the 3-point line and free throw line.
EC shot 44.9 percent (31-of-69) from the field and knocked down 12-of-37 3-pointers (.324), while the Highlanders finished 19-of-53 (.358) from the field and just 4-of-16 (.250) from downtown. The Red Devils dished out 22 assists to committing only seven turnovers, while forcing 18 Highlander errors.
MC's Brianna Markusic scored 18 points to lead the host, ending the night 6-of-11 (.545) from the field.
Eureka will be back on the road this Saturday, traveling to Fulton, Mo. for a 4 p.m. league contest against the Westminster Blue Jays.
